Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d say it’s been a quiet, normal week. Yesterday I went to St. John Cantius for a Lenten retreat. I particularly appreciated the wisdom that Lent should be a time of serenity. We should give up hurry and rush. Amen!

While it was St. Patrick’s Day, I didn’t celebrate much. I’m not a fan of corned beef or cabbage, but did have some Irish soda bread. I shared some vintage St. Patrick’s Day cards, Irish poetry, and recommendations for Irish humor and music on my blog.
I attended a Zoom presentation from my library about Chicago’s Talking Statues, but it was rather mediocre. There was a cultural project where the city had an app and recorded famous actors talking as if they were a well known Chicago statue. Most of the presentation was listening to the talks. I thought the presenter could have added more insights. The grant has lapsed on this project so I don’t think you can hear all the recordings.
I watched an engaging, perplexing film by Andrei Tarkovsky. Yep, Stalker wasn’t enough of a puzzle. I had to go back for more so I watched Solaris, his sci-fi-fi film It’s not like any sci-fi-I’ve seen. It deals more with psychology and relationships than with aliens or the fight between good and evil. It’s amazing that Tarkovsky made this with a slashed budget and lots of censorship.
Friday I went to village hall to help set up for Early Voting, which begins on Monday. I’ll be an election judge again. The local elections shouldn’t be too busy. Luckily Monday – Friday we close at 5 instead of 7pm and we open at 10 am on the weekends (rather than 9 am). The usual chief of Early Voting won’t be working. His wife died recently so he’s in Florida with his grandkids and daughter which is wise. We’re in able hands with an Early Voting veteran.
After setting up the voting equipment, my cousin and I were lucky to get together for lunch. I hadn’t seen her since early November and we had a lot to catch up on.
